A chance to say thank you...

It's too late for the thousands that paid the ultimate price for our freedom. Take the time to thank those who served and are still serving.

It is the
VETERAN,
not the preacher,
who has given us freedom of religion.

It is
the VETERAN,
not the reporter,
who has given us freedom of the press

It is
the VETERAN,
not the poet,
who has given us freedom of speech

It is
the VETERAN,
not the campus organizer,
who has given us freedom to assemble.

Yet another...

Just what the paintball world needs. Another "rifled barrel". Will we ever learn? There is nothing, NOTHING, a barrel can do to make a paintball go further (except the Flatline) or make it more accurate (especially the Flatline). Barrel manufacturers - STOP, STOP, STOP messing with the noobies' heads!

Paintball Lost...

paintball sock
I have a pretty busy Lost and Found shelf here at the field. Currently there are 3 guns, 8 tanks and nearly a dozen masks. It amazes me how much of this stuff is never claimed. After it sets on the shelf for awhile it gets boxed up and stored away. I just can't get myself to give it away or sell it - even though I have a sign above the counter that reads, "Items left over 90 days become the property of T-Square". What happens if the next day the owner comes in to claim it?

I find a lot of clothes also. In particular I find a lot of dirty socks in the parking lot come Monday morning.

The socks I don't keep.

Sunday Paintball Funnies...

President Obama decided to do one of his public addresses at a paintball field, but the ceremony couldn't get started because of all the flies buzzing around his head. Obama demanded to know why the flies wouldn't leave, so the field owner explained to him, "Well, those are called circle flies. They always circle around the back end of horses." Obama angrily replied, "Hey, are you saying that I'm a horse's ass?" The field owner answered, "No Sir, Mister President. I would never call someone a horse's ass. It's hard to fool them flies though."

(I'm sorry. I couldn't help myself - besides, he's really stating to piss me off!)

Dale over at the Ford Report has this to say about realistic airsoft guns. He also references an incredible story by TB about fake tourniquets. All I've got to say about the matter is I've been bitching about realistic, military airsoft AND PAINTBALL gear for years. A few deaths in the right jurisdiction and our sport is shut down for good.

Late night paintball ramblings...

paintball

The T-Square Paintball Paintblog need some cool paintball initials. AXPL. CXBL. Anything with an X is rad. Or a V. VFTD - View from the Deadbox. Now those are cool initials. Initials can offer up immediate recognition. Like PBN. Everybody knows what PBN stands for. Or maybe I need a catchy nickname. I've always liked "The Big Bullet" for 68Caliber.

I just don't see TSPP getting very far. Maybe a mascot?

Paintball - seems like it's always something...

The "1 in 100" syndrome hit again this week end. (That's where 99 players go home happy and 1 impossible to please player leaves complaining about something in case you missed the post.). Only it was 1 out of the 104 players who took a chance on the weather and came out for our twice a year Big Game. And this time, instead of whining and complaining about something that happened on the field,  he struck silently and cowardly.

As we all ducked and covered as hail and lightening crashed all around us someone decided to grab a players gear bag and case of paint and steal off into the storm with both.  The victim was still wearing his vest and remote and was carrying his marker if you could call that lucky - except his wallet, cell phone and keys were in the gear bag.

In fifteen years we have had little more than a bag or two of a player's paint go missing. (I, on the other hand, lost an ATV and a number of rentals in two separate incidents.) One 500 round bag looks pretty much like another so I'm sure it was always just a matter of someone hastily grabbing the wrong bag. But a gear bag and paint and a wallet, cell phone and keys? That's a call out the County Sheriff situation.

A police report was made. Mom vented on the naive player. I made a mental note to put up "Watch your Stuff" signs and again I'm left wondering if there is such a thing as a perfect paintball day.

YOU MUST FOLLOW THE RULES....

I was looking over the 2010 NPPL Rule Book and noticed it had 34 pages. It got me to wondering how other "sports" compare. The NBA rule book is 62 pages, followed by the MLB - 132, FIFA - 140, NFL - 148 and the NHL with a whopping 232. I've always been a bit vocal about how I think the tournament game has grown to muddled and confusing. I guess, in comparison, paintball is rather tame.

As a side note, while researching I found out the NASCAR Rule Book is published strictly for NASCAR members. Trying to find a copy is like trying to find the Holy Grail. I know a guy who bought a 2008 copy on EBay. There must be a part in the rules that threaten you with a fate worse than death if you divulge any information about its content. He went mum on the subject and hasn't spoken to me about the purchase since.

Here's an NPPL rule book trivia question for you: Does NPPL allow a remote tank hook up?

Barrel (1)

Paintball games...

I've collected a few paintball t-shirts over the years. I have a few from the International Amateur Open events. My daughter ended up with all my Orlando World Cup shirts. I'm kinda proud of my Certified Automag Tech shirts.

My favorite has always been the one pictured. Maybe because it was my first or maybe because of the vibrant colors (The photo does not do it justice.) I'm sure it breaks a few Olympic copyright rules but it's all good.

It came, unsolicited, in an order I placed with the now defunct "Paintball Games Dallas" wholesale company - one of the predecessors of National - a one stop place to shop. It bugs me that I can't remember the name of my sales rep from PGD. He was one of the good ones. Always willing to go the extra mile.

Frankenstein...

About ten years ago, one cold, quiet night, I got bored. This was the result. Under the bondo (yes, the stuff you use to patch car fenders) and paint and hoses and adaptors is a Brass Eagle Stingray. Field strip knobs (to replace the pins), rear cocking, bottom line set up with expansion chamber, ported barrel, trigger adjust (ahead of its time!), polished and ported! When I think back to those early field owner days, when I had 75 Stingray rentals, I shudder and shake my head. I've often considered entering this one in an ugly gun contest.

Any rainy Saturday AM...

Some lessons are learned the hard way. Others just kind of creep up on you over time.

It's two in the morning. Outside, rain is coming down in sheets and buckets and not just a few cats and dogs. Three of the five groups scheduled to play later today called earlier in the evening to cancel. No doubt the field will be unplayable for the rest. Perhaps a few hearty souls will show up to do battle even though it will be our inland version of Poseidon that will reign supreme.

Earlier in my paintball field owning career I would be up at two in the morning fretting over lost revenue and field damage. This morning it's just a bit of indigestion. The rain will stop at some point. Bunkers that float away tonight will be urged back into place after the flood plain drains and dries. The groups that can will reschedule. The ten day forecast shows rain for next weekend but thank goodness there is only a 50 percent chance the weather predictors will be right.

As time goes on I'm learning to worry less. Especially over things I have no control of. Life goes on. I'd like to think someday I'll have nothing to fret over. After all, there is very little we actually can control. That lesson might come in time but I doubt it. There's always something - and that I've learned the hard way.

Ten sure fire ways to make sure paintball never grows...

Name your field "Hostile Fire."

Name your team "The Insane Baby Killers."

Pawn noobs.

Use a barrel cover that has "Eat my balls" printed on the side.

Expect nothing less than a full ride/team sponsorship from your local field owner.

Never invite a friend along.

Wear your tournament gear and pods while playing rec ball.

Dress like a commando while playing rec ball.

Give your son a ten foot head start in the backyard before you show him what getting hit feels like.

I bet you can think of a tenth one...

Tag. You're it...

An acquaintance recently took me to task for ignoring the percentage of players that like to play fast and hard on the field. He said I should work to include both the rec player and the more hard core element.

The obvious mean and grumpy reply would be, "Why?"

I let the suggestion slide. After all, he is an acquaintance.

Paintball is a game. I've said it many times. It's not a slogan or an advertising jingle or a way of life I'm trying to force on anyone. It's a fact. Paintball is a game. It's a game often compared to tag.

Remember playing tag as a kid? Do you remember who won? Do you remember your "tag count?" Did you need a 10 foot stick (two feet longer than your opponent's stick) to win? (Did you need to carry a bunch of sticks in a back pack?) Was there a referee?

I can hear some of you hard core tag players answering "YES"!

The rest of you I invite to come play paintball at T-Square.

Number one...

Just a quick Heinz 57 (catch-up) post while I'm enjoying some down time:

When someone brings a gun into the shop the number one answer to the question, "How did it get like this?" is "I let a friend borrow it."

When I open up a gun and find missing pieces and ask, "Have you taken your gun apart?" the number one response is, "No."

The number one response when I ask, "What kind of oil do you use?" is "Huh?"

When I have to ask, "Who used Super Glue on this o'ring?" the number one answer is, "Dad."

When asked, "Why did you shoot the ref?" the answer is always, "I didn't see him."
