Because I said so...

After reffing and running a field for so long there are things that come out of my mouth as if scripted. When ever someone remarks, "Paintball is fun!" the first thing out is almost always, "As long as you don't take it to seriously."

I make a big deal about the rubber band we have on our hoppers. It's there to double insure the lid doesn't come open. Sometimes the rubber band will break and I'm asked for another one. "It'll cost you a dollar." That one tends to backfire since I often get a serious scowl and then have to explain that I was kidding.

When ever someone comes off the field with a goggle shot I like to say, "Hey, that was rude. Who did that to you?" That one mostly gets a smile and a,"My friend!, or my favorite; "My son!"

One I've just recently come up with is, "GET YOUR MASK ON. There are people out here with guns. That's enough to remind me!" The thing I'm constantly reminding my refs is you have to be able to reprimand people with a smile on your face.

Some days are easier than others.
