Left? Or right?
The paintball gun on the left does not work. I'll fix it for $15 plus parts. The paintball gun on the right works fine and comes with 10 free field fees. If it ever has a problem I'll fix it for free.
The CO2 tank on the left leaks. I'll fix it for $10. The tank on the right does not leak. But if it ever does I will fix it for free.

I get suggestions...
"Let people play with their own paint." I get this one every week. This player probably doesn't know why theater popcorn costs $5 a bucket either. I doubt I could explain.
"Let people use their own paintball gun even if they don't have a safety if they know how to use it." I have no idea how to answer this one, either. It leaves me speechless. So I'm going to put it up in the form of a poll. It's "yes" or "no". You get it or you don't. (Let's ignore the fact that for insurance reasons every gun must have a working safety.)

small BOOM!
Some electronic markers come with a rechargeable battery. Some of the markers require you to take the rechargeable battery out and charge it using a charger that plugs into the wall. Some markers have a small port somewhere, usually on the grip frame, where you can plug in a charger to recharge the rechargeable battery. In either case it is kind of important that you are charging a rechargeable battery and not a non-rechargeable, throw away battery. Otherwise you might end up having to throw away your marker when the battery shorts out and blows up inside the gun.

I can't speak for all the local pro-shops but I'm sure most will offer maintenance and expertise with each sale. I can't control my gun!
Got an e-mail today.
"Hello there just read the field report and you have a big game coming up i understand. I just had some quick questions I have a dangerous power g3 this thing can lay some paint down! Do you have any limitations as to how fast you can shoot Ex: I always no matter what I'm playing shoot on 25bps mode. Would I have to set it to a lower mode? Because this gun the lowest mode is 15 balls per second. I would really love to come and play I just hope my gun doesn't limit that thank you very much."
My response.
Just because your gun will not cap below 15 balls per second doesn't mean you can't behave yourself and play rec-ball with it. I have a very serious attitude about having fun. Shoot more than three times without a polite pause before you shoot three more and I'll be on you like stink on poo. NO ramping, bouncing, fanning, burst, auto, etc. and you will fit right in - or you could always borrow a rental.
I hope he gets it.

More etiquette...
Here is a bit of paintball etiquette that I held back from the etiquette post because I think it deserves its own post.
Do not yell at my refs, "PAINT CHECK THAT PLAYER!".
Refs, for the most part, know what they are doing. They are not necessarily on the field to call people out. They are there to insure integrity. Many times they will hold back to see if players will call themselves out (Remember, we are talking about rec-ball.). They also watch for wiping.
If you feel a player is hit but not calling themselves out my advice is pretty simple. Hit them again. Unless the ref is caught totally off guard or is distracted they will eventually pull the player and have a chat with him or her on the way back to the safe zone.
No, my refs are not perfect. You may run into one that is having a bad day and doesn't have his head totally in the game. Don't yell at them to do their job.

And now, a word from Miss Manners...
Everyone knows not to eat with their mouth open or check their cell phone in a theater. Heck, even redneck etiquette is pretty clear - Don't take a beer to a job interview and always identify people in your yard before shooting at them.
But what about paintball etiquette?
1. Never shoot more paint than you would want returned.
2. Dads - don't hog the flag pulls.
3. Don't leave you marker exposed on the back seat of your vehicle.
4. Don't hold up the group to work on your marker.
5. Plug (or cover) you barrel and raise your gun when hit.
6. Check for your opponent's gun plug before shooting at him.
7. Keep your staging area picked up and organized.
8. Never fire, even dry fire, in the staging area.
9. Always introduce yourself when joining a group.

Heads in the sand...
I'm a little disappointing with some of my poll participants. I put "Who cares" as an option in the last poll and it was picked (as of this moment) by nearly half the voters. Now it's true this might just mean you don't care about the question or you don't care for polls but I have a feeling it means you just don't care.
I assume you stop by here from time to time because of an interest in the sport of paintball. I make a living at paintball so I don't expect everyone to be as passionate or concerned about the issues as I but it would be good to know you have an opinion one way or the other.
Maybe I should not ask questions that I don't want answers to.

Paintball + Heat requires Water...
Going to be out of computer range till next Wednesday. Hope you all have the greatest weekend.
If you are playing in all this heat please keep in mind that the water you drink on the day of play will help but it is not what is needed to ward off heat exhaustion or stroke. It's the water you drink the two or three days before you play that counts.
And no, beer and soda does not count.
Ref's - if you see a player who is not sweating while everyone around him or her is drenched take immediate action.
Let's be careful out there.

Communication breakdown...
Moms. Dads. Don't put your 10 year olds on the phone to ask questions or for directions. It's not cute. I'd love to help little Tommy develop his phone skills but I really don't have time to repeat myself a half dozen times while your child translates back and forth between us. I'm going to end up talking to you anyway. And chances are I'm not going to be in the mood to deal with your flustered, impatient attitude toward my inability to give little Tommy clear and precise information.

You have money waiting in a Nicaraguan Bank...
Everyone knows there is a lot of SPAM on the internet. There's stuff out there you can click on, including e-mails, that will curl your hair and fry your motherboard! So when I see stuff in my inbox I don't immediately recognize like, "Please reply", or "How ya doin" I automatically click it into the trash basket. If you really want a reply it has to include some reference to the paintball, item, subject or idea. I would hate to trash an important e-mail and make someone think I was being mean and grumpy and ignoring them!

I get suggestions...
Some I can't repeat here. Most are pretty good.
I haven't responded to the many notes I have found in the Suggestion Box in awhile, at least not publicly. Let me try to catch up.
I always find the "make paint free" or "why don't you use (insert the name of your favorite $1200 paintball marker) for rentals." To those folks all I can say is keep trying. And to the author of the barely legible "I hate this costly place" you have my sympathies. Some days I hate how much it cost to run this place, too!
"Let people play in their own groups." You can. Bring 12 or more by reservation and you get to play as a group and get a discount.
"Separate players into two groups. One normal, another can shoot as fast as they want." NOT GOING TO HAPPEN! Besides, who would rather not be considered "normal"?
"Have Bunker Tag." NOT GOING TO HAPPEN! Stay back 20 feet.
"Getting hit in the gun should be called out. It promotes blind shooting since you can just stick your gun out." Gun hits keep you out of play. Players stick their gun out because they are afraid of getting hit, not because they don't care if the gun gets hit. If one of my refs isn't jumping on blind shooters let me know.
"Attackers on the Fort Game and Badlands Game should be eliminated. Defenders don't get another chance." Maybe my ref didn't explain the games correctly. In the Fort Game defenders who get hit go to the Fort and continue playing. If they get hit in the Fort they join the attackers and continue playing until the game ends. In the Badlands defenders who get hit go to the rear bunker and continue to play even if they get hit there! Our goal is to give everyone as much playing time as possible.
"Every man for himself." I'm assuming you are suggesting this for a game. Try to imagine refing that game. Seriously. Try!!!
"Make coupons for VIP's." The T2 VIP (Very Important Player) program is a very popular item here. Play a minimum of once every three months and you are eligible. Each time you play you get either free paint, free snacks or bonus dollars that you can spend or save. Become a Silver or Gold member and get more. It's free to join. All you have to do is ask for a VIP card the next time you stop in.
"Plant some mines in every field." Only if you volunteer to set them up before and after every game. "Make more fields." I'll do that as soon as I learn how to survive on less than 5 hours of sleep at night. "Sell free guns." As soon as I start getting them free you will get them free. Besides, how do you sell something if it's free? "Give away grenades." I don't even sell them anymore. They seldom work because players don't take the time to SHAKE THEM enough. (And yes, all these suggestions were on the same sheet of paper.)
And yes, I apologize if some of these replys sound a bit snarky or sarcastic. I do enjoy suggestions and do my best to make your T2 experience a good one. The comments option is turned off but don't forget you can always email using the link in the sidebar.

Watch those inspection dates…
There are a lot of "good deals" to be found on CO2 tanks. Problem is, folks buy them from E-Bay or from discounters or from a friend and then find out we can't fill them because they are past due their inspection date. Most times the seller is not aware. Sometimes the seller doesn't care. Sometimes the buyer will argue with us, telling us "so-and-so" filled them and we have to answer back that so-and-so is risking a $25,000 fine and five years in jail.
Almost every metal CO2 tank has a date stamped on them. If it is one of the few that doesn't then it is exempt from inspection. If you're not sure where to find the date we will be glad to show you. The past due date is 5 years past the stamped date.
The same is true for high pressure tanks only some of them are 3 year tanks.
As always - buyer beware. Discounters love to pick up tanks that are cheap due to them being close to their past due date and then pass them on to you at a "great price"! Some sellers drag old equipment out of the closet and sell it unaware or with no concern for the past due date.

I've fallen behind on responding to suggestions I find in the suggestion box. I’ll try to catch up with this post!
Let groups of 5 or 6 play what they want.
Sorry. Not going to happen. A group is 12 or more players. Then if you can get the 12 to agree on what they want to play before the sun goes down we will set you up with what ever you want (within safety limits)! There is a post somewhere in the archives that further explains why I can’t cater to small numbers.
Make group discount for 8 or 10 people. Not 12!
Here is an explanation that is included in the archive post I mentioned above. With a group of ten I lose money. With eleven I break even, and with twelve I make just enough profit to take my granddaughter to McDonalds on Friday night! Twelve is the absolute minimum I can afford. I actually count on groups to bring 15 to 20 or more players.
Limit feet per second, not balls per second.
By show of hands - who wants to be hit by 10 or 12 balls per second by some punk with a DM4? We limit feet per second (under 280fps) AND balls per second in the interest of safety and fair play.
Moving targets.
Yeah, I agree. I’ve seen some games where the opponents are pretty non-aggressive. What would you suggest? Maybe some kangaroos? Or how ‘bout some goats!

Ok, lets move the fort field over where the tower field is and let’s move the tower field over where the badlands was and, oh wait. You mean, like, move the trees around and stuff?
I’m sorry, I couldn’t resist. We are making it a priority this year to add more bunkers, change up some shooting lanes, etc. C’mon out and check out the work that is being done.
Takes to long between games.
When I decided to open the field back in 1995 I made quick turnarounds one of my top priorities. I’ve had over 50 people working here at one time or another and have only had to fire three. Two of those were for sitting on their butt. My refs know I insist on keeping the games moving.
Now with that said let me throw it back at you and ask, "Why was there a delay?" If it was the ref why was I not informed before the end of the day?
Maybe there was a break while more players were inserted. Or maybe the ref is waiting for a field to clear. Or maybe half your group decided to take a break leaving not enough players to start a new game. Or maybe your ref had been reffing for 4 hours before you got to the field and needs a break! Or maybe an unusual amount of people need to be cleaned up or have equipment checked.
Or, maybe you have a ref who is sitting on his/her butt. Ten minutes max - that’s how long it should take to get the next game going. I will say this, though, at some of the bigger fields, Skirmish, S.C. Village, Challenge Park, etc. it is normal to wait 40 to 50 minutes between games.
In my not so humble opinion my refs deserve a whole lot more pats on the back (and an occasional tip) from players than they are getting now.
