Paintball - seems like it's always something...

The "1 in 100" syndrome hit again this week end. (That's where 99 players go home happy and 1 impossible to please player leaves complaining about something in case you missed the post.). Only it was 1 out of the 104 players who took a chance on the weather and came out for our twice a year Big Game. And this time, instead of whining and complaining about something that happened on the field,  he struck silently and cowardly.

As we all ducked and covered as hail and lightening crashed all around us someone decided to grab a players gear bag and case of paint and steal off into the storm with both.  The victim was still wearing his vest and remote and was carrying his marker if you could call that lucky - except his wallet, cell phone and keys were in the gear bag.

In fifteen years we have had little more than a bag or two of a player's paint go missing. (I, on the other hand, lost an ATV and a number of rentals in two separate incidents.) One 500 round bag looks pretty much like another so I'm sure it was always just a matter of someone hastily grabbing the wrong bag. But a gear bag and paint and a wallet, cell phone and keys? That's a call out the County Sheriff situation.

A police report was made. Mom vented on the naive player. I made a mental note to put up "Watch your Stuff" signs and again I'm left wondering if there is such a thing as a perfect paintball day.

That's really frustrating to hear. I can imagine the kid who stole the items is the type of person who would get really upset if his/her stuff was taken.

Time for some cameras over the staging area?

Yeah, when the Sheriff arrived the first thing he asked was if I had cameras. When I told him no he kinda shrugged his shoulders as if to say, "Oh well, nothing more I can do here."

Hey Mick, Tinker here. You don't have to accept this one to go 'live' but I thought I would let you know of a guy that can help you out with the cameras and a the like. He works for one of the school districts and does alarm systems on the side. I go to church with the guy and he is a volunteer fireman in Runyan Acres as well. He is a real stand up guy that I trust or I wouldn't be offering his name.

His name is Tim Vano and if you are interested let me know at tad@maumelle.org. I will give him your name and number so he can call you and set up an appointment.

Good luck finding the scumball. The sad part is that he will show up again later like nothing happened. You could have gone through the permission slips and checked those against anyone who didn't pay or against the people still there to see who was accounted for.

Thus this may be a good thing to help field owners and the customers
