THE BASICS OF A PAINTCHECK
(FROM A REF'S POINT OF VIEW)
(FROM A REF'S POINT OF VIEW)
ECHO LOUDLY THE PLAYER'S CALL FOR A PAINTCHECK. THIS LETS THE PLAYER KNOW YOU ARE AWARE.
AS YOU ECHO THE CALL POINT TO THE PLAYER. THIS LETS THE PLAYER KNOW YOU SEE HIM AND LETS OTHER PLAYERS KNOW WHERE THE PAINTCHECK PLAYER IS AND IN WHAT DIRECTION YOU ARE ABOUT TO RUN.
AS YOU APPROACH, BE PREPARED TO TELL THE PLAYER TO GET DOWN OR STAY DOWN. WE TELL THE PLAYERS IN THE SAFETY BRIEFING THAT THEY MUST PLUG THEIR GUN BUT IT IS YOUR CALL IF YOU FEEL YOU CAN GET IN AND OUT WITHOUT IT.
SHIELD THE PLAYER FROM OPPONENTS, TAKE A DEEP BREATH (TO HELP CALM YOURSELF) AND ASK IN A CALM, CONTROLLED VOICE, "WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN HIT?" THEN PROCEED WITH THE PAINTCHECK.
ADDITIONAL NOTES: IF THE PLAYER IS IN A BUNKER WITH OTHER PLAYERS IT'S A SURE BET THAT THE BUNKER IS TAKING HEAVY FIRE. IT IS BEST TO HAVE THE PLAYER PLUG HIS GUN AND COME OUT OF THE BUNKER FOR A PAINTCHECK.
