It's too hot to play paintball. Too hot to fish. It has even been too hot to write. Almost. I recently jumped into a subject that I'm sort of emotionally connected to. You can see it here if you're interested. It turned out to be a rather tame debate. Maybe it's too hot every where for any kind of heated discord.
Going to be out of computer range till next Wednesday. Hope you all have the greatest weekend.
If you are playing in all this heat please keep in mind that the water you drink on the day of play will help but it is not what is needed to ward off heat exhaustion or stroke. It's the water you drink the two or three days before you play that counts.
And no, beer and soda does not count.
Ref's - if you see a player who is not sweating while everyone around him or her is drenched take immediate action.
Let's be careful out there.
When ever a walk-on shows up with a super gun I will remind him (or her) a number of times that I don't allow sustained or high rate of fire. The player will invariable test my limits, laying out a nine or ten ball string at the start of the first game and I will remind him that three is plenty. If they are real ballsy they might try it one more time but in most cases they get my point and behave. On rare occasions I'll have someone complain or try to argue and I'll throw my "You have brought an Indy car to a go kart track" analogy. I don't care for big fish in my little pond.
What I find most interesting is the players that complain the loudest, the ones that want to rip a newbie or light up a young gun never take me up on my invite to come play with Team 120 during open practice. The team players all have Indy car guns, 13+ balls per second and play up close and personal paintball. Maybe little sharks don't feel comfortable swimming with big sharks.
In case anyone missed the cynical sarcasm in Thursday and Friday's post let me make it clear that I think Paintball Assassin Death Stix and Hemorrhage are both horrible names for a paintball product. Here and here are some other "Why don't you just shoot yourself in the foot" names I find objectionable.

Tippmann. One of the most humongus names in paintball. Does this mean there must be something to this paintball rifling?
NO.
It means Tippmann sold out. Went with the money.
Big business.
Notice the first release of the barrel is for the A5 and X7. It's no secret that sales are dragging on both these models. No doubt this sexy barrel is an attempt to rejuice sales. The simple, reliable, don't mess with me M98 is doing fine right now. The Straight Line will follow later for it.
There have been a number of attempts to bring paintball to the big screen. One that comes to mind is "In Your Face". Despite the punk title it came off like a Disney afternoon special and didn't do much for paintball. There has been a bunch of talk about another, called "The Paintball Kid, that is suppose to be released in 2009.
It's hard to imagine a good paintball movie named "Blackballed". Harder yet is knowing it's a comedy with actors from shows on Comedy Central. It traveled the film festival circuit and I think it might finally be out on DVD. I haven't seen it but I'm told it's not "In You Face" bad.
Field owners hold their collective breath when ever we hear about paintball coming to the media. How will the movie/TV/DVD portray paintball? Will the actors keep their masks on? Is it parent friendly or is it a cuss and welt fest? Is it going to be done Jackass style?
There is another big screen film in the works called "Paintball". Sounded promising to me until I discovered it's a horror film.
That can't be good.
I'm working on something. Some more covered tables and a new shooting range. And something else I don't want to go into right now. I don't know why I wait till the summer heat sets in to do this kind of stuff. Ten minutes of work. Twenty minute air condition break.
Ok. So here's the deal. I eliminated the star rating system at the bottom of each post. It was confusing the heck out of me. Did more stars mean you agreed with the subject or did it just mean you liked the tone or did it mean you agreed with my view?
If there were fewer stars did it mean you thought my writing sucked or did it mean you didn't care for the subject?
If the subject of the post was negative does less stars mean you agree with my negative thoughts? Would more stars mean you disagreed? Or agreed?
You get the picture.
Count on seeing POLLS instead of stars. I hope you will participate. Remember, your vote counts!
It's nitrogen. Not nitrous.
They're paintballs. Not bullets.
It's a marker (or gun - who cares). Not a weapon or gat.
It's called "speedball" because the games are shorter. Not because the balls go faster or hit harder or because you speed through more paint.
They are not noobs. They are new players.
Scenario games are games - not "scenario tournaments."
Hoppers hold paint and are attached to your marker where they gravity feed your gun.
Loaders hold paint and stay in your pack until you need them and then the empty ones go on the ground.
If a hopper has batteries then its now called a loader (until the batteries die - then it's called a B#%&*!!). It's refilled using pods.
Pods also go on the ground when they're empty.
